Surf camp for autistic youth sells out at La Jolla Shores

This year s Surf Camp is already sold out Photo from video courtesy of Autism Society San Diego Autistic children and young adults from across San Diego County are taking part in the sold-out annual Surf Camp hosted by Autism Society San Diego at La Jolla Shores The camp which runs across six separate four-day sessions this summer is supporting more than participants with expanded programs for Each participant age five and up is paired with a one-on-one surf instructor aide for the duration of the four-day camp The model lets instructors connect with each child s learning style and personality often leading to meaningful breakthroughs both in and out of the water Other exercises include beach sports arts and crafts and group beach adventures All sessions are being held at the north end of La Jolla Shores near Tower running from June through Aug Camp Schedule Week June July Week July July Week July July Week July July Week July July Week August Aug The effort continues to grow in popularity each year selling out briskly and reflecting a growing need for inclusive adaptive recreational initiatives in the region According to Autism Society San Diego one in children in San Diego is on the autism spectrum The organization offers financial assistance to ensure the initiative remains accessible to families regardless of cost Due to the ongoing demand Autism Society San Diego is now seeking additional partners and patronage to expand future camp ceiling More Information autismsocietysandiego org programs surf-camp
